Great Egg Harbor River Moving Water - From Weymouth Furnace, Mays Landing NJ

  • 12 Jul 2022
  • 10:00 AM - 3:30 PM

Paddle the clear tea colored waters of this beautiful river. The initial miles are a lonely Pine Barrens passage. Energetic paddling is required around the many twists and turns and deadfall (trees/branches) in the river.

Then the river comes to rest in Lake Lenape. The head of this man-made lake is an unspoiled area of many channels, swamps and marsh. The lower lake, in contrast has developed shores, but remains attractive. Anticipated trip time for this 7.3-mile paddle is approximately 4.5 hours. We will take breaks and eat lunch along the way. We will all work together for safety as we paddle down the river.

Meet at Weymouth Furnace, 2050 Weymouth Rd, Mays Landing, NJ, There is a porta potty at Weymouth Furnace. Coordinates: 39.515904769049776, -74.7803999898297. We will drop off the boats and leave several participants there to look over them while we shuttle our cars to Lake Lenape Park West.

Take Out: Lake Lenapi Park West, 6303 Old Harding Highway, Mays Landing, NJ, There are bathrooms in the Boathouse at Lake Lenape Park West. Coordinates: 39.45598412572866, -74.73977293740239. At the end of the trip, we will use the vehicles that we left at Lenape Park to take drivers back to Weymouth Furnace to get their vehicles and get everybody and their boats back together.

Rain or dangerous water levels will cancel the trip.
