Delaware River Moving Water/Class 1 - From Theodore Roosevelt Recreation Area, Williams Township PA

  • 09 Jul 2022
  • 9:00 AM - 4:00 PM

Paddle this pretty section of the Delaware River lined by wooded bluffs and high rock cliffs north of New Hope from Theodore Roosevelt Recreation Area to Giving Pond Access. This section of the river has smooth waters and simple well-spaced riffles and class 1 rapids. Anticipated trip time for this 12-mile paddle is approximately 5 hours. We will take breaks and eat lunch along the way. We will all work together for safety as we paddle down the river.

Meet at Theodore Roosevelt Recreation Area, Route 611 and Canal Road, Willliams Township, PA. There are bathrooms at Theodor Roosevelt. Coordinates: 40.627283051345, -75.19071861433211.

We will drop off the boats and leave several participants there to look over them while we shuttle our cars to Giving Pond Access.

Take Out: Giving Pond Access, 1069-1087 River Rd, Upper Black Eddy, PA 18972. At the end of the trip, we will use the vehicles that we left at Giving Pond to take drivers back to Theodore Roosevelt to get their vehicles and get everybody and the boats back together.

High water levels may change the trip location. Rain or dangerous water levels will cancel the trip.

Requirements (for your safety):

* You must wear your PFD Life Jacket while on the water and should have a whistle. Wear water shoes or some other form of foot protection. Flip-flops are not acceptable. Bring water, snacks and lunch.

* All participants are required to have insurance from the American Canoe Association (ACA). Trip participants must complete the ACA Waiver and Release of Liability. Printed copies will also be available the morning of the trip. There is no cost for members who provide their ACA membership number on this form. Annual ACA membership is encouraged and is only $40 for individuals which gives you a discount on most club trips and supports the paddling community.
