Schuylkill River - Pottstown to Linfield

Date: Sunday, May 29 (Rain date Monday, May30) - 10:00 a.m.

This is an approximately 9.5 mile paddle on moving water, through an attractive portion of the Schuylkill River

starting some 40 miles upstream from Philadelphia. Expect numerous riffles and easy Class I rapids and be prepared

for a short Class II rapids at the former Vincent Dam. PFD's required; skirts helpful at the Vincent Dam site. No

SUP’s or sit-on- tops. Meet at 10:00 a.m. at the put-in, Pottstown Riverfront Park, 140 College Drive, which is at the

river's edge, right next to the Schuylkill Valley Heritage Center HQ building, near the center of Pottstown. We'll

shuttle the cars to Linfield Park and return to Pottstown to start the trip. We'll stop along the way for lunch (brown

bag) and should arrive at the take-out, just below the former Vincent Dam, around 2:00 p.m. Sign up by phone or

email to the trip coordinator, and leave full contact information in case the trip is changed or cancelled.

Please note:

The Trip Coordinator must be contacted prior to the event. Please do not simply show up at the put-in!

1. In your email or phone message, identify the trip by name and date.

2. List the full names of all paddlers with e-mails and contact phone numbers.

3. List the type and number of boats you will bring.

4. Read and agree to the paragraph footnoted* below, which defines the conditions under which you participate in

this trip.

5. If you have any concerns, please notify the trip coordinator in advance.

6. If you decide to cancel, please notify the trip coordinator prior to the event.

*ALL POTENTIAL PARTICIPANTS: PLEASE BE SURE TO READ, UNDERSTAND, AND ACCEPT THE

FOLLOWING BEFORE DECIDING TO JOIN THE TRIP:

Trips run by the Philadelphia Canoe Club are Common Adventures, with all participants sharing the risks. Each

participant is ultimately responsible for their safety, generally and specifically as follows:

1. All participants are equal partners, sharing the risks involved in a river trip.

2. The Trip Coordinator facilitates the trip, arranges meeting places and times. The Trip Coordinator is not a guide

and does not lead the trip or decide who should or should not participate.

3. All Participants must decide:

A. Whether or not to join the trip based on an honest evaluation of their personal skill.

B. Whether or not to launch on the day of the trip based on water and weather conditions at the scene.

C. Whether or not to run, scout or portage a rapid.

D. Whether or not to participate in a rescue.

4. All Participants agree to paddle within the mutually supportive group structure outlined in the American
